Over four sessions, students will learn how to create vivid, multi-plate color etchings. This class will cover how to make a visual plan for multi-plate images; how to mix and modify color inks for best results; and how to properly register multiple plates for printing and proofing. Students will hone their existing etching and aquatint skills over the course of this class and will get to experiment with whatever etching techniques intrigue them the most — whether it be step-etch aquatint, sugar-lift, spit-bite, hard or soft ground. Students will complete this course with skills to edition their new multi-plate projects and with a deeper understanding of traditional etching techniques.
Please note that this is an intermediate to advanced level class and students must already have a familiarity with etching and aquatint.
