Drypoint with Chine-Collé (Saturday August 8, 2026)
This is an introductory workshop into traditional chine collé. In the course of 4-hours, participants will learn the importance of traditional wheat starch paste, Japanese pasting stools and East Asian papers. We will explore mark-making on plates and play with multi-layered chine collé, adding color and tone to a black and white print. Students will come away from the class understanding the basics of drypoint and traditional chine collé, how it can be applied to a range of print processes and most importantly how chine collé can add color, depth and texture to a print.

Chine-Collé: Printing, Seaming, Mounting & Collaging (Sunday, August 9, 2026)
This workshop focuses on the principles of chine collé to collage, seam and back prints. In the course of 4-hours, we will make watercolor monotypes to play with the techniques employed. Participants will learn how to cook jin shofu (wheat paste), how to use  Japanese pasting stools and East Asian papers. We will explore preparation of materials, understand how to layer to give structural support, and walk-through troubleshooting. Students will take away from class having a base understanding of chine collé, its principles and the many ways it can be used.

Alejandra Arias Sevilla is a visual artist, collaborator, and printmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. After completing her BFA, she was awarded an apprenticeship at Mullowney Printing (Portland, OR), and soon after completing the program she joined the team. During her three years at Mullowney Printing, she worked and collaborated with internationally acclaimed artists, honing her craft and skill as Lead Printer. Alejandra has led classes and workshops at a wide range of studios across the country including Dieu Doné, Hunter College, and the Cooper Union.
