Chris Martin

Known for his use of found of materials, Martin delighted in what he discovered in the studio and its surroundings. In Grey, Black, and Brown, he incorporated ground industrial rubber in his abstract composition to achieve a contrast in the print surface and make the black drawing even deeper and darker. In Wednesday Miles and Thursday Miles, he used some of his favorite music— Miles Davis at Fillmore —as an inspiration. Martin’s approach was intuitive and playful, informed by his painting process.

Chris Martin created these editions through the Printshop’s invitational Publishing Residency Program, working with printers Erik Hougen and James Miller in 2011. The screenprints incorporate archival inkjet printing, collage, and flocking and measure 42 x 27.75 inches (106.7 x 70 cm); and 44 x 27.75 inches (111.8 x 70 cm) respectively, are printed in editions of 20.
